GACC SUPPORTS DECISION TO HANDOVER MAYBEY & JOHNSON CASE TO CHRAJ
PRESS RELEASE
The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has noted with satisfaction the decision by Government to refer the high profile Mabey & Johnson bribery scandal to the Commission on Human Rights Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for investigation. By this decision, the Government has affirmed its faith and confidence in critical constitutional bodies mandated to fight corruption. The Coalition urges Government to provide CHRAJ with the needed resources to enable them do a thorough job.
The handing over of this case to CHRAJ, a member of the Coalition, is a litmus test for the Commission which was set up under the Constitution to among other things “investigate all instances of alleged or suspected corruption and the misappropriation of public monies by officials and to take appropriate steps including reports to the Attorney General and the Auditor General resulting from such investigations.”
The GACC fully trusts that CHRAJ as an independent body has the track record and sufficient goodwill to conduct independent investigations into the allegations and deal with it in a transparent manner.
The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition appeals to the relevant British Institutions and the Ghanaian public especially Public Servants, the Media and Political parties to provide CHRAJ with the needed cooperation.
