ELECTORAL COMMISSION, GHANA ANTI-CORRUPTION COALITION JOIN FORCES TO FIGHT ELECTORAL CORRUPTION
During the courtesy call at the Electoral Commission on 13th May 2009 the Commissioner called for the strengthening of laws on verifying the income and expenditure of political parties to empower the electoral commission and other anti-corruption bodies to play their roles effectively in monitoring. The GACC requested for a critical look at the reporting mechanism as stated in the political parties act and relates funding of political parties.

The Electoral Commission said they have instituted a fund for political parties that attain 1% of valid votes cast in elections and therefore applauded the initiative by GACC to deal with corruption. Both parties agreed that there was a lot of alleged corruption acts in the whole process of electoral process and political party financing and will need to work together to ensure that the achievement of the process of democracy is not derailed by corrupt practices.
